Judiciary Addresses Cybersecurity Breach: Extra Safeguards to Protect Sensitive Court Records

After the recent disclosure of widespread cybersecurity breaches of both private sector and government computer systems, federal courts immediately added new security procedures to protect highly sensitive confidential documents (HSDs) filed with the courts.  Please refer to the January 6, 2021 press release of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts for additional details.  On January 14, 2021, Chief Judge Margaret Cangilos-Ruiz signed Administrative Order 21-01 regarding the filing, service and management of HSDs.
